Postgraduate School

New entrants to the WISE CDT are co-located at the University of Exeter for their first year, where they complete the Postgraduate School in Water Informatics.  This programme of training ensures that all students have a solid understanding of water informatics and wider research methodology skills training before they develop and commence on their PhD research project.

The Postgraduate School programme accounts for 120 credits (or 8 modules) of taught Master’s level modules (National Qualification Framework level 7).  All modules are delivered on the Streatham Campus of the University of Exeter. Throughout the Postgraduate School WISE CDT students are provided with a laptop and desk and are located together in dedicated offices in Hope Hall.

The Postgraduate School programme is comprised of 8 modules worth a total of 120 credits (NQF level 7):

Module
ECMM124: Hydroinformatics Tools
ECMM132: Urban Drainage and Waste Water Management
ECMM133: Water Supply and Distribution Management
ECMM144: Environmental and Computational Hydraulics (Cardiff)
ECMM145: Computational Hydrology (Bristol)
ECMM146: Mathematical Modelling of Wastewater Treatment Process (Bath)
ECMM171: Programming for Engineering
ECMM410: Research Methodology
Three of the above modules have been created specifically for the WISE CDT and are only available to WISE CDT students (ECMM144, ECMM145 and ECMM146).  These three modules are delivered by academics from our partner universities – Cardiff, Bristol and Bath, respectively.  All remaining modules are offered as part of the University of Exeter MSc in Water Engineering, meaning that WISE CDT students are provided with the opportunity to interact with a wide array of Master’s level students studying Urban Water Engineering and Management.

Assessment includes coursework (including in-class tests) and examinations.  WISE CDT students are required to be available throughout the University of Exeter examination periods in January and May and for the referred/deferred examination period in August.  Further information about examination periods is available here.
