Postgraduate School


All students who join the WISE CDT complete the Postgraduate School in Water Informatics in their first year of study.  This programme of training ensures that all entrants to the CDT have a solid understanding of water informatics and wider research methodology skills training, before they develop and commence on their PhD project.

The Postgraduate School accounts for 120 credits (or eight modules) of taught Master’s level modules.  All modules are delivered on the Streatham Campus of the University of Exeter. Throughout the Postgraduate School all students are provided with a laptop and desk, with all WISE CDT students located within the same rooms in Hope Hall.


The programme is comprised of eight modules worth a total of 120 credits:

ECMM124: Hydroinformatics Tools
ECMM132: Urban Drainage and Waste Water Management
ECMM133: Water Supply and Distribution Management
ECMM144: Environmental and Computational Hydraulics (Cardiff)
ECMM145: Computational Hydrology (Bristol)
ECMM146: Mathematical Modelling of Wastewater Treatment Process (Bath)
ECMM171: Programming for Engineering
ECMM410: Research Methodology


Of these modules, three have been created specifically for the WISE CDT and are only available to WISE CDT students (ECMM144, ECMM145 and ECMM146).  Each one of these modules is delivered by a different university partner to the CDT (as indicated above).  All remaining modules are offered as part of the University of Exeter MSc in Water Engineering, meaning that the WISE CDT students are provided with the opportunity to interact with a wide array of Master’s level students studying Urban Water Engineering and Management.
