Deborah Shackleton

Supervisor: Professor Fayyaz Memon

Background

Deborah graduated from the University of Exeter in 2015 with a MEng (Hons) in Civil Engineering and is looking to stay here in Exeter for the duration of the WISE programme in order to undertake her research project with Professor Fayyaz Memon. Her MEng dissertation was titled: ‘Design of a lightweight and compact water filtration system for disaster-stricken communities.’

Work Experience

Prior to enrolling on the WISE programme, Deborah worked as a Graduate Engineer at Constant Structural Design from January 2017. Here she was responsible for the conceptual and detailed design of a variety of structures, including residential work, commercial buildings and contemporary artwork. She also has experience of working in a variety of different research environments through her time with Riddhi Technologies in Kerala, India as a Numerical Research Assistant and the Institut National des Sciences Appliquées in Rennes, France as a Research Intern.

Research Interests

  • Water management issues in developing countries
  • Identification, development and assessment of feasible sustainable solutions for drought management and emergency supplies in disaster stricken communities.
  • The development and application of computational modelling tools to support decision making on water management in developing countries
